Tip of the Day
Do not wash your cell phone...just saying! It never works again even if you put it in a bowl of rice and seal it up for 6 months and stand on your head for the whole time. Just saying...you know. But the upside is that my bestie can text me more!

Category 1 Hurricane Winds
Yesterday was pretty crazy around here...wind warnings and flying debris. For the first time in my life I heard the emergency alert system tell us to stay away from windows! Our downtown core was closed to traffic and transit because of flying debris and broken glass. Wind gusts were recorded at 149 km/h on top of a building in the downtown core. Category 1 hurricane force winds are classified by sustained winds at approximately 120 km/h.
Rhino went out to get a branch that had broken off of our tree and he thought the neighbours tree was going to go and sure enough it did.
Another neighbour behind us had his eaves trough come right off the house. You should have heard the sound it made as it was whipping around. We also watched another neighbours shingles just rip off and blow away. Scary stuff. Luckily, we only lost a few tree branches.

Kitchen Chair
While on vacation in Spokane this summer I spotted a thrift store, imagine that! It was mainly a lot of junk and it was all stored outside. Most of it should have just gone straight to the dump. I have no idea what happens when it rains or snows there. I guess everything just gets wet.
I had always wanted a little chair for the kitchen. So when I saw this one I knew it had hope. The bonus was that it was incredibly cheap...you can really buy a chair for $1.00!
The chair was in rough shape indeed! But remember it was only $1.00! I brought it back to our campsite and Rhino could only laugh about why I had picked this up. I am surprised he didn't make me leave it!
I cleaned all the disgusting black mold off with bleach. Initially I thought I would just make another bottom for it. But those little clips that hold the seat onto the frame would have been hard to redo. I put another foam pad on it and then used leftover fabric from the kitchen drapes for the seat cover.
Rhino helped with the seat recovering. I wanted to learn how to do this before I help a friend out on her kitchen chairs. I figured it would be much better to make a mistake on this!
And now the chair is now actually being used! Not bad for a $1.00 find.

DIY Disaster
Sometimes I forget that not all projects end up like you had envisioned! This was one such project.
While dropping off some items at Goodwill I decided to pop in. Which actually defeats the purpose of trying to clean out your own things! But I saw this mirror and it was marked $9.99. And it is solid it weighs a ton. Obviously the blue would have to go. But do you notice the texture? Very bumpy. I decided not to sand as that is just way easier. Bad decision.
I spray painted it with a sage green color first with the intention of putting white paint over and distressing it to show a bit of green. Once I started to sand I noticed that the blue was the only color showing up! Well of course it was. So let's skip the distressing part and go with just white instead. Also it may have been smart to not spray paint the glass!

Here is the finished project while not a total fail it wasn't what I had pictured in my mind. It is still bumpy and as you can see I didn't scrape all the paint off the glass. I was going for the aged looked all along!

Halloween 2011
I never did post any pictures of Halloween it just slipped my mind. Because we have so much stuff going on well mainly my mom I decided to buy costumes for the girls. They both had classroom parties in the afternoon and got to wear their costumes to school too. The girls headed out at about 6:00 and were done by 8:00 and then went to a friends for some apple cider.
On Sunday we carved some pumpkins up. Scary Larry was the winner this year in detail and scariness! Good job Rhino! The pumpkins we got this year were huge and had a really nice shape.
Right before they headed out for the candy haul...
And they still have candy left!! Someone is saving some particular pieces to enjoy after November 23rd!
